Woods speech falls on deaf tabloid ears

ORLANDO, Fla. -- When will the celebrity media leave Tiger Woods and his family alone? Don't hold your breath.

Woods made a passionate and defiant plea – more of a demand, really – to the press and paparazzi in his speech Friday to leave his wife and kids alone. He said tabloid photographers had stalked his 2-year-old on the way to daycare and implored people to back off.

Woods' kids attend a pricy daycare located about 1.5 miles from my house.

There are currently eight photographers camped outside the daycare at this very moment, presumably hoping to get a money shot of Elin Woods as she picks up, or drops off, her children.

Message ignored.

Sorry but i feel no remorse for Tiger Woods.  Golf is a sport of high class and etiquette behavior.  Tiger has proven many times he is not in that class, which is why no other golfer is expressing support for him right now.  You people can be mad if you want to, but the second you put yourself in Stardom, this is what comes with it.  Sure you make Millions of dollars, but when you screw up, you get blasted by the media and everyone else who wants to. I agree with an earlier post, deal with it.  You screwed up and now you want everyone to respect your wishes?  HA thats a laugher.

Woods speech falls on deaf tabloid ears

I have one question or challenge for the journalists.  What is the question you would have asked Tiger that would have measurably improved what we know, or enlightened us, added value to the conversation, determined credibility or deserved to be further discussed or investigated on what he did?
He clearly mentioned he was the one at fault, why he made the mistakes (sense of entitlement), how he made the mistakes (wealth & fame), who he has hurt (wife, family, friends, associates, mentors and mentorees)  what he did (cheated on his wife, repeatedly) and what he is going to do (get additional therapy) and what he is not going to do (play golf for awhile).
Whether his apology and sorrow is sincere, in my opinion, no question was going to answer.  His problem has clearly been identified, only time and his future actions will answer if he can overcome it.
We all have a right to privacy.  If anyone thinks Tiger can publicly repair the damage he has done to his family, beyond the acknowledgement and repentance he just made, please tell us how.
In this country, everyone has the right to their opinion and to offer it publicly.  With the internet we can all be part of THE MEDIA.  Journalists are suppose to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism in THE MEDIA.  Since when is opinion on what is said and how it is said, before it is said professional?
After reading and listening to all the opinion delivered by USA Today, NY Times, MSNBC, Fox, Extra, TMZ and now the GWAA it is very difficult to determine professional journalism from media marketing.
So journalists, put up or shut up, justifying your "freedom of the press" existence alone is no longer meeting the bill and may explain why more important issues than a filandering sports personality are not being addressed very well.

Woods speech falls on deaf tabloid ears

Judge Steve Elling should recuse himself from further comment on Tiger Woods' issues.  Judge Elling has had nothing but one long ridiculous tirade against Woods.  Exactly why he is so angry at Woods is unclear.  What is clear is that Woods' actions, while reprehensible, are hardly unusual.  I am sure I am understating the matter if I say hundreds of millions of people have cheated on their spouses.  The market has already punished Woods beyond most with the loss of sponsorships.  Why Elling takes the position they should lose their incomes entirely is far beyond me.  The clear situation here is that Woods owes his family and sponsors a huge apology.  He owes kids who looked to him as a role model a special apology.  He owes the rest of us nothing, and particularly he owes the golf community nothing.  The  golf community has benefited from his presence immensely from the start.  Every single current golf professional has made more money because of Woods than they would have had Woods been killed in a car accident at age 20.  So tell Judge Elling to get over it.

Woods speech falls on deaf tabloid ears

C'mon so many people are taking this short article way out of context. Does everyone that posted here really know where Mr. Elling lives? To me, I read this peice and came away with the author saying that he lives near where the daycare is drove past it and saw a rediculous scrne. Being a reporter, he reported it. The fact he says it is near his home gives the story credibility. Was this the story I was expecting to read or wanted to read when I came to it, no. But give the guy a break, he is not bashing anyone here but the tabloids and making a strong point for what a majority of Tiger's statement was.

I watched Tiger's statement and he came accross as 20 percent ANGRY 10 percent APPOLOGETIC and 70 percent DILLUSIONAL. He has no idea of what his life is now after all this. This speech will only fuel the fires more for tabloids to get even more dirt, for more women to come out which of course may already be avoided by payouts by Woods "camp".

Rick Riley has said it best, Tiger needs to fire all the people that were close to him and "enabled" this behavior that has Tiger in this spot. That means his agents and his good old grumpy caddie Stevie Williams. I hope someone put together a short 1 hour compilation(Isay short because it can be much much longer) of how poorly he treats his fans on the course and his poor behavior. The sport is supposed to be a "Gentlemens game". Tiger hasn't displayed this type of behavior in a long, long time. Williams is nothing Short of a goon who acts on his masters commands. I am a Tiger fan, and have had this wrath come down on me personally. I used to go to 3-4 tourny's a year but don't anymore. I unfortunately sneezed during Tigers back-swing at the US Open at Bethpage. He did not complete the swing but he did send good old Stevie after me after a profane outburst. The result was that I was pointed out to officials by Woods and Williams and was told by officials that if i wanted to stay at the tournament I could no longer follow Woods. I complied. This was on Thursday and I had a 4 day pass. After getting home that evening, I decided that I would forego the rest of tournament and watch it at home. I felt totally disrespected by the tournament officials for a sneeze. I wrote a letter, got a short letter of appology and a refund for the 4 day pass plus future tickets to events in my area and other stuff. Never used the tickets and have never gone to another event. All for a "threatening" reaction to a sneeze from a couple of "thugs". Even after this I remain a Tiger fan. What he does on the course is truely amazing and it is hard not to be a fan of his game. But I can't be a fan of the "brutish" person he is. Ever.

If you have fame you genrally can lead a normal life. If you have fortune you also can generally lead a normal life, but once you put them together all normalcy goes out the window. Your the best at what you do and you get paid handsomely for it. This comes with higher media scrutiny that most expext and accept begrudgingly. Tiger had been fortunate to this point that he has avoided it. Now he is totally dillusional when makking his plea to be left alone. If he and his wife are to stick together, which I seriously doubt, they will need to do a sit down with a major network in primetime, like 60 Minutes or Barbara Walters, forget Oprah that will be too soft ball, They will need to open the laundry bin and let it all out. Once they do that, things will ease off after a couple of weeks of nothing but side by side shots of them together. Tiger would never do this though I believe,

Good luck to you Tiger, You're going to need in all facets of your life from this point forward.

Steve believes it's those other guys making money off of Tiger's family's misery who are to blame.
